VMware (Remote Desktop Access)

Introduction

VMware allows remote desktop login from personal laptop and home computers.   VMware was chosen to support the Green Initiative that the College of Engineering and Computer Science has undertaken with the addition of the new Platinum Level LEED Certification Green Building.

Implementing what is known as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Engineering is now providing your same desktop as if you were in our labs.

Printing from VMware View:

PC Users:

  • If you are at home, then any printer that you have will be listed and you will see your local printer when selecting the application’s print menu.

MAC Users:

  • Printing from the MAC is not yet possible , this is a known issue with VMWARE and will be addressed in a future release of the MAC client.  Sorry for the headache this may cause.

Copying files from you FAU drives (such as Z:) to your local computer

  • To do this you can not directly use vmware.  You will need to open a web page outside of the view agent and log into genie.  TSG is working to provide a more streamlined way to do this in the future. (please see genie section for more help this)

If you need help:

  • Please email the Technical Services Group (TSG)  at help@eng.fau.edu so that we can assist you with any issues that you may have with this process.
